So, I’ve had a few issues with my iPhone, but nothing that has made me unhappy with the device… And as I was writing the above, I got a call, and when the call ended (the other person hung up) it went back to the picture of them, with the “slide to unlock” screen. I then tried to “slide to unlock” but it wasnt working. I thought that the whole phone had frozen, but I saw the reception bars change. I pressed the home button again, and another “slide to unlock” came up over the top of the other one, and this time it worked. That was a bit strange.

When it happened, I thought that the same thing was happening as what happened to me the day I got it. I was on a call, and I received an SMS. When I was finished with the call, I tapped the “end call” button immediately followed by the “close” button for the SMS alert, and the phone froze with the call buttons grayed out as they do when you’re ending a call, and the SMS notification half way faded out. I then had to hard reset the phone, which took about a minute, but was annoying because I was waiting for another call.

The next issue I had was a couple of third party apps that I had downloaded after a while would occasionally freeze and/or quit, which I thought was probably just a problem with the app, but when I removed and reinstalled the app, and they worked perfectly again, I wasn’t so sure.

I then went to install a couple of the Jirbo Inc. games, but while one of them was installing, there were two icons for it. Once installed the second icon disappeared, and I thought it was just a bug while it was installing, but it acted as if there was another invisible icon there when trying to arrange all the icons how I wanted. I solved this problem by uninstalling the game and installing it again, after which everything was as it should have been.

iTunes has this nifty option where you can choose what applications you want to sync with the iPhone… If only it worked how one would want it to. Apps added on the iPhone arent added into the iTunes application list. So what did I do? I downloaded them onto iTunes and expected everything to then work… WRONG. Deselecting to sync an app in the iTunes sync list that you originally added from the iPhone app store doesn’t remove it from the iPhone… And can anyone tell me why, when iTunes says that there are updates for my applications, that it has the right number in the main iTunes window, but on the download screen, it lists each application not once, but 2 or 3, and sometimes 4 times?

The iPhone 2.0.1 update became available through iTunes yesterday or the day before, I upgraded fine, everything works, but whenever I sync my iPhone now, it tells me that there is a carrier software update, but when I choose to update, it gives me an error. Which I wouldnt mind about not updating straight away and waiting for them to fix it, but it tells me every single time I sync the iPhone.

A while ago, I bought a “Universal Dock”, where each iPod product would come with a small plastic adapter so that your device would fit nicely in the dock. I was surprised that the iPhone didn’t come with this adapter. I though; no matter, I will just take out the adapter and just plug it in without it, it wont look quite as nice, with the edges not being flush with the iPhone, but it will still work. I was right to some extent. It connects to the computer, but it doesnt provide any other features of the Dock, and the iPhone comes up with a message saying it doesn’t recognise the device, do I want to switch to “Airplane Mode” which is annoying, but I can just ignore it or simply press “No”.

I like the automatic syncing of everything when I plug the iPhone in, everything updates, it opens iPhoto if I have taken any new pictures. What gave me the shits, was that it synced every time I restarted iTunes, either by choice or from iTunes crashing. I wouldn’t have noticed this, unless I was changing iTunes settings on my “Movies” to “Music Videos” (which can’t be done in a group, and every single one needs to be done individually) and iTunes didn’t seem to like a few of them, and crashed every time I even clicked on them, so I had to delete them. I wonder if this has something to do with iTunes recognising only some mpg movies; I have .mpg and .mpeg movies, yet iTunes only added about half of my .mpg movies.

I mainly use Gmail for emails. I must admit, I really like Gmail, and when I found out that Yahoo! was offering push email for the iPhone, I was a bit confused. This was because Yahoo! was offering this great service for free, when you need to pay to be able to use POP/IMAP/SMTP with them. Why would they make this purely for the iPhone? Why wouldn’t Google offer this service? So, I signed up to Yahoo! mail, I set Gmail to forward all my emails to my Yahoo! account, added my Yahoo! account on my iPhone, and set Gmail to manually update. The only problem with this is that when you get an email from Yahoo! and you go into Mail on the iPhone, you get the same email in the Gmail account, which I can see being a problem if you get a lot of emails, but it doesn’t bother me when I only get about 10 per day when I’m not at the computer (IMAP will mark ones read on the computer as read on your iPhone too). Oh, and there is also the problem where emails just stop coming in for no apparent reason… Well done, Apple…

Sure, this is a long post full of problems with iTunes and the iPhone, but I still love my iPhone… and iTunes still does what it’s meant to 99% of the time, and is the best product of it’s kind for Mac OSX that I have found.

EDIT: I also just read on a forum, and confirmed it myself, a strange bug. If you go into any application that has a keyboard, and you try to type the word “Damiera”, once you type the ‘e’, you are not able to type the ‘r’, as if the key was not there at all. This also happens with a few other words, “Sesame” and “flickr” being two noteworthy ones.
